How do I progress faster?

To start this off, I haven’t been playing this game for too long, only about a month. A problem I’ve been having with this game is that certain strategies just become invalid when your opponent’s Phobies’ levels are higher than yours to a large enough degree.
Leveling up my phobies is slow. I can only get cards from card packs and jacks. I’ve only been opening 3000 tear card packs because I want to get new phobies, but even then the last two I’ve done didn’t give me new ones.
My opponents in asynchronous and arena always have level 6, 7, and even 8 phobies whereas mine are all 6 or less. I don’t know if there’s a more efficient way to get new phobies or the resources to level them up, but it’s gotten to the point where almost every game I play im at such a severe disadvantage that It’s almost impossible to win if my opponent knows what they’re doing. They always have more options and the options that we share are always stronger than mine. It’s really discouraging and makes this game really frustrating at times.
If anyone has any advice on how to level up phobies and unlock new phobies more efficiently please let me know.

personally i think its because the matchmaking rating hasn’t spread enough yet/ not working well enough and we got matched to someone who have more phobies that have similar mmr as yours. well sometime i also feel disheartened to face opponent that their phobies has 2 levels than my best one…

recently i faced a level 9 jarcannon whom can’t be one shotted by my level 7 murderwing. then making the jarcannon in small map more powerful cause now i am forced to move 2 phobies instead of one if i want to kill that jarcannon… and that small thing often snowballs… cause jarcannon above the power pad behind a wall is really hard to counter. cause i might have to spawn 2 phobie to counter that one jarcannon when the enemy can focus on something else cause his jarcannon most likely will be fine

or that their level 9 murderwing can 2 shot my murderwing while i cannot 2 shot their murderwing.

and this resulting into quick math game cause i can’t intuitively make plan because sometime the opponent’s phobie is still alive although the low health. in async, i will face those moment where i just accept that some match are really unwinnable.

its worse when it happens in arena… the awkward moment of undoing everything you do cause the enemy phobie is still alive with very very low health after you yolo-ed your pawns…

i agree with op, diversity of plans is also one factor that wins the game. in my opinnion, those who unlocked quagmire earlier will perform better due to tanking ability because the starter has no low cost tanker that can heal himself. combined with clinico on level 20, its beautiful combination in small map. pretty unlucky if you unlocked like droney when you haven’t unlocked the big map yet.

for me personally, i am glad sometime i faced opponents that are better than me, i just hope the mmr rating can put me really in where i belong… where i can face opponents more equal and gradually become better… not getting steamrolled by experienced player with better phobies.

as for the tip… i advise that you only level up the phobies that you think matter the most since exp are limited per day and dont upgrade those that you have no strategy with. and sometime its better to spend your coffees in daily double so you can level up phobies that you have instead of having a new phobie and have to level it up until it can catch up with other phobies you have.
i personally left my venus, minotaur, and so on at level one cause i have no practical use for them for now. and pray that the jack will have the phobies upgrade that i want…

i hope this helps tho…
sorry for bad english…

One of the strategies I employ is using a soul knight since, at the same or similar levels, soul knight one shots jar cannon, and being cosmic, it poses a decent threat against it. But even when it comes down to random interactions and then the enemy is left at like 10 health, and I know that one level more or less on either side would have made that work, it makes me wish that there weren’t any card levels. Btw your English is fine

yeah the knight can one shot it and also being a dimensional makes jarcannon unable to target it without (mostlikely) dying. i always use it to capture pad that contested by the jarcannon. for the cost of 2 killing 3 key phobie maybe a good trade too. but still most of the time i still need something else to finish it off if it’s still alive. or that they can recapture with 1 key phobie. and i don’t like the idea of sacrificing phobies when other 2 key phobies can do better in the long run such as gesundheit or maggie that has relatively same damage.

what sucks about this level system is that it takes away your intuition, thinking what usually worked now it won’t. imagine having 20-40 async battle and you have to count everything manually for every strategy you manufactured. i don’t think it’s how most people play it anyway…

i wish the game to be more intuition friendly… not a contest of mathematics which leads to this problem…

whats a soul knight? lol game plays like a RPG if you cant spend cash you will have to grind for months, all these games are designed like that, if it was easy anybody could do it, that being said ive noticed “steps” my first month i played over 200 games as i quickly rose ranks you can see how matching works and how new levels have certian monsters other people may or may not have, if somebody has god like monsters either quit and start a new game or mess with them till they quit
