Ability mechanism:
Name: Weight for me!!!
Popeye is carrying an anchor that he can give a way to enemy or friendly phobies. Who ever has the anchor will have an anchor icone over him(just like buff and nerf icones). If the phobies which has the icone is friendly he gets stasis like boomer(he can’t get pushed, pulled or teleported), this effect lasts 2 turns before the anchor goes back to Popeye who gets the stasis effect. If its an enemy he can no longer move(just like Rusty Ab) this effect lasts 1 turn before going back to Popeye. If the phobie with the anchor dies the anchor goes directly back to Popeye. Finally THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE… anchor which means that when Popeye gives out his anchor he no longer has the icon therefore he is affected by pulls and pushes.

The reason behind this guy is because many of us (on discord for example) complain about push/puller especially the ones with a range of 3(like Doc Holliday) a way to undirectly nerf them would be to add more stasis/sedimentary ability just like Popeye, and I also made him uncommon so that he’d be easy to get.

A chance to submit my own Phobies? How exciting! I’ll first start with my Phobies submissions and then attach my maps afterward.

IGN: Outwitter


First up, I have Buttershark! This is a “slug” style unit in the vein of other 6 keys like Blondie and Cerberus, but filling in for the Dimensional side of things! Much like Radihater, Buttershark gains a passive bonus every few turns, but this unit gains massively enhanced movement!

Visually, Buttershark is a cubic piece of butter with butter knives jutting out from various places that resemble the fins of a shark. While movement is enhanced, Buttershark will sink into a “puddle form” with the dorsal knife sticking out, which resembles a shark that is knifing.


Next up would be Lolm! Lolm is based off of the cave-dwelling cousin of the Axolotl, the Olm! Lolm is a bit of an odd unit, able to engage in some sneaky damage from a distance and over walls, or line up for a push in order to completely disable some key enemy players.

This one is probably my favorite, it has a lot of fun little things involved that would be enjoyable to see in game. I’ve also included a few potential considerations regarding the design in game, should certain visual aspects prove troublesome.


And finally, Meowitzer! I’ve always wanted to see a delayed attacker in Phobies, and I think a good example of that would be a ranged attacker like this! Meowitzer is a kinda kooky two kitties trying their best to operate an artillery cannon, which includes moving it themselves. While their strikes are deadly, the munitions they fire take some time to hit the board. This leaves them particularly vulnerable to faster and more aggressive opponents, but at the same time, you’re lighting a fire underneath the enemy to get them to move, lest they be bombed out of wherever they’re staying.

It was difficult for me to choose 3 particular Phobies for this contest. I have spent a lot of my time since I first found this game just coming up with my own Phobies that I feel could fit the game. I have so many ideas that I would love to see given consideration, but seeing as I can only choose three of them, it would have to be these. I chose those that I found to fit the criteria given to me the best, but I sincerely hope that something like this contest happens again in the future so that I am given the opportunity to share more of my ideas with the team.

Something that I am also hoping for is some kind of contact to be kept with the grand prize winner, should one of their submissions be implemented. It would be unfortunate to see the winner be translated to the game improperly, so I feel it would be best to check in and make sure that you are implementing the winner’s creation well from time to time, if possible of course.




I will not be nearly as elaborate with these, as I find they speak well enough for themselves, but I figured I would go as far as to make a few map submissions as well, using the Phobies Map Maker created by PatoRey.

I wanted to see about making some maps with packed, central combat areas with walls placed in areas that would make removing them or placing new ones with a Terrorform ability deeply advantageous. I wanted hearts to be accessible through panic point damage as well as direct attacks, and I looked to try and prevent slow, zoning-based play from dominating in these maps.

I’m more of a Phobies design guy, but perhaps these maps will entice people.

Phobie name: Lippy’s Serpent

Attact damage: 2000 to surrounding enemy phobies

Health: 4000

Attack Animation: The mouths each make a large chomp one at a time.

Special abilities: each of the three mouths have a unique ability as seen below

Right mouth: showers all enemy phobies with acidic saliva. Each phobies 300 damage for a continuous 3 turns

Middle mouth: makes every panic vanish for the rest of the game. Ownership of painic points will remain to who ever captured them at time of turn.

Left mouth: does a chorus of creepy laughs that make phobies up to 4 tiles away. Freeze for 2 turns.

Eyes Special ability: To see all enemy traps before any other friendly phobie steps on one.

New card rarity: ungodly

When Lippy’s Unfathomable Serpent dies, it automatically takes half of all enemy phobies over all health.

This phobie has 5 moves each turn with a travel distance of 8 tiles in any direction.

Phobie name: Caffiend (A pun on Caffeine and fiend)

I was inspired by the currency of the game, (which is coffee beans) And because there …alive? I Said “Why can’t they join the battle?” And so here comes caffinend!

Animation:

Looping idle animation has her twitching and occasionally jumping a little.

Other animation well idling has him jumping so fast up-and-down before she turns into a blur And then stopping to fall back down.

Ability animation Has her Winding up to Lobb a Coffee bean to a phobie.

Attack animation has Her rapidly clawing at a enemy phobia.

The name of the Phobie is Peekaboo, a 6 key dimensional Phobie. It might have 1 tile movement and 1 tile range, paired with enough bulk to keep it alive. The special ability is that every few turns, it transforms like Werewolf, leaving the wardrobe and changing stats. The other form has 3 movement tile instead, keeping the 1 range and having less hp.

The map is intended to be similar to boxing or WWE rings and has elements that attempt to reference this.

The spas are in the corners of the ring because it is the fighters’ resting place. There are two panic points outside the Ring because sometimes there are fights outside of it. The conveyors want to replicate the scenes where someone bounces off the ropes.
