[CONTEST] - Community Competition: Map & Phobie

  1. Map Name: “Don’t Look Back”


    Map Size: Small
    Map Theme: The Mechanicum (in game: “The Crypto Maze”)
    Description: This is a “siege map”, which is something we don’t really have much of. The best way to defend ones own heart is to break out and plunge into the opponent’s siege setup, hence the name.

  2. Map Name: “Angst”


    Map Size: Small
    Map Theme: “The School Lockers”
    Description: The name is a reference to “teenage angst”, as well as literally being the German word for “fear”. Pretty standard, aggressive map.

Map Name: “Slitherin’ N’ Slimy”


Map Size: Small
Map Theme: “The Attic”
Description: The snake-looking conveyor belt leads directly to the enemy heart, but also directly into the enemy line of fire. Claustrophobic, unconventional and aggressive.

Map Name: “Ritual Of Fire”

Map Size: Large
Map Theme: “The Steel City”
Description: The areas around the hearts need to be held, which makes the central area more important too, since it’s a perfect entry point and contains two panic points. A very sectioned off feel.

Map Name: “Hyperchondria”


(one disease tile is erroneously missing on the top left, adding it restores symmetry)
Map Size: Large
Map Theme: “The Hell”
Description: Very “hyper”, and very “hypochondriac”. Similar to “Don’t Look Back”, the only way to stop the opponent from heart rushing is to face them directly, or out-rush them.

First time making a post here so I hope the formatting comes out alright, I am submitting 5 maps and 1 single phobie.

Map 1: Serpentine
IGN: Canon2
Large map
Theme: The steel city, like mysomania, the once lure etc.


Personally my favorite map of this bunch and if any of them make it into the game I want it to be this one. It’s themed around having a lot of passages for your phobies to squeeze through as they “serpentine” their way around the map, the abyss tiles are shaped like an S too.

Map 2: Ribcage
IGN: Canon2
Large map
Theme: Hell, like Xylo, Diabolical etc.


This map is centered around the central fighting area, or the “ribcage” in the middle of it with both hearts in close proximity to each other (tho if you think about it a ribcage is only supposed to have 1 heart in there)

Map 3: Sour Grapes
IGN: Canon2
Large map
Theme: Pet cemetery, like morbidity, tombstone etc.


Although it looks similar to my last map I’m sure this one would play completely differently, especially with the large space in the bottom part of it.

Map 4: Weak End

Small map
Theme: The school, like detention, the big house etc.


The name is a pun on weekend (hence the school theme) but also like weakened or a weak spot, the hearts are a little bit more exposed than usual with plenty of panic points to reflect this exposed weak spot.

Map 5: Beckoning Cat

Small map
Theme: Crypto maze, like crypto, pluto etc.


It looks like a cat face :3

The abilities are explained with relative detail in the images.

Entry 1, “Spitee”

This is a sci-fi mechanical variation of Suckee, “Spitee”. The idea is a worm that spits out wormholes, quite fitting, I know. I think it has great play potential especially for a 4 key, to the point where it might even be broken. However, just keep in mind that the purpose of this event is to present the idea and not actually have a fully balanced fleshed out kit. This unit definitely has the ability to create chaos with the ability. There are numerous plays you can make with this ability, knock off “Ole Switcher You” from Greylien, but only at the end of the turn, putting wormhole in abyss and pulling them into the other wormhole with Miss Moffat or Tentacruel, the play potential for this ability is endless. It is important to note, Wormholes cannot be placed on obstacles or the heart. Feel free to throw it on Phobies and panic points. However, Phobies with the stasis passive will not be able to swap, this means if there is another Phobie on the other side of the Wormhole, they will not move.

Entry 2, “Weeping”

This is a Phobie based on the Weeping Angel, thus the name “Weeping”. A key attribute to the Weeping Angels is their restraint to only be able to move when not being looked at. Of course, having the Phobie being completely stationary when having LOS with an enemy would be outlandish so I gave it a 1 movement and 3 when not having LOS with an enemy Phobie. LOS is defined as Line Of Sight, two Phobies have LOS when there is no obstructions in the way, this includes both obstacles and other Phobies. This will make this unit extremely fun to use on maps with lots of coverage. It also has a lot of synergy with “Terrorformers” like gravedigger and Mount Crushmore, as well as flying and bypass phobies that can move in front of Weeping to block LOS with enemies.

Entry 3, “Glass Cannon”

This is an expensive variation of the Jar Cannon, “Glass Cannon”. It runs on the popular gaming description of a character or unit with low hp and extremely high damage. With this in mind, I decided to push this attribute to the max and made its hp 1. This will definitely cause some balancing issues, but I’m sure the dev team is more than talented to manage that. I made it keep the trait of Jar Cannon having a 3 attack range as I feel like it is a unique factor of our very special first Ultra-rare. I also made it have a move range of 2 so that it gets more opportunities to use the ability “fragile”. Even Though it has an above average attack range and high damage, I think the ability is what makes this Ultra-rare shine. The ability is extremely offensive, it involves every Phobie within 1 tile to take 50% more damage and deal 50% more damage. This can be used to create massive plays with all the affected phobies becoming “glass cannons” themselves. Once again, this ability has word play involved, with the unit being made of glass and the ability being called fragile.

The Fragile ability just gives everyone double damage, but I really like Spitee since I use Suckee so often.

Attack range: all around itself in 1 tile, uses the power of sheer anger to smack everyone around itself with an electrical plug, dealing electrical damage in the process.
Damage: 400 + 300 electric

Ability: You’re TOAST!

I’ve really wanted a character designed around balancing resources and cooldown management, so I’ve made one with a chargeable attack!

Spawn lock: 1 turn
Cooldown (after shooting): 3 turns
Range: 3 tiles

The center point of the ability would be choosing when to shoot, instead of when to cast the ability. The damage would highly depend on the charge time, although… You wouldn’t want to hold it for too long!

  • On turn 1 of using the ability nothing would happen, except the character going into a loaded state, the bread going inside them.
  • On turn 2 they would be ready to shoot a perfect toast at the enemy in a 3-tile range for 550 damage, or hold for longer.
  • On turn 3 they would shoot a slightly charred and burnt breat at the enemy for 700 + 100 fire damage
  • On turn 4 they would shoot a burning toast for 800 + 200 fire damage
  • If not shot on turn 4, at the end of turn 4 the toaster overheats and explodes, going up in flames, dealing 750 damage to self (scaling with health, basically dealing 50% of health at any level) and burning the ground under itself for 3 turns for 200 damage.

This ability would have to be used cautiously, promoting interesting counterplay and synergies. For example, the enemy could completely counter the shot with a well-placed gargoyle, a smart wall placement, or a freezing phobie.
The person playing the toaster would have to either predict the picks and counterpick accordingly or rush in with a tank to let the toaster push forward for a great shot at an important target.
Of course damages could be tweaked accordingly to make some charges kill certain phobies, but I feel that it being able to kill an important turret like an in-oculus at third or fourth turn would be quite balanced.

Description: the idea of ​​this counter conveyor is that if there is one character on it, then during his turn and the opponent’s turn he is closer or further from the target, which in my opinion will help melee units feel more comfortable there. If there are two units on this conveyor, then it is blocked accordingly(P.S. In a conflict situation with Glob, most likely the one who finishes the move on the conveyor last moves towards the other, after which the next moves are together with Glob).

Description:I continue to experiment with conveyors and the possibility of using them in an interesting and competent way. On this, in my opinion, quite a dynamic map with the possibility of flanking raids, there are also closed triangular conveyors with a pit nearby, so it is worth carefully monitoring the location of the fighters there, so as not to expose yourself and get the maximum benefit.

The prototype of the name is Kaleidoscope. One turn and a completely different angle of the picture. Around the central point of panic are circular conveyors counterclockwise and clockwise and another external counterclockwise. The mechanism can be neutralized by some characters, but will it be profitable to do so?

Every night the drums and flutes can be heard everywhere, who can be?.. of course!, SAY HELLO TO HACHI & TAIKO: THE DANCING TWINS!!!

They´re two naughty and mischevous dimensional phobies who loves to haunt and send curses with their spooky melodies which brought From the Yokai´s paradise to your ears!.

Hachi is less powerful than his brother but has a rock´s resistance, and Taiko has a explosive power but is less resistant, well, because he pisses off with any inconvenience. But beware, because this tsukumogamis are together and performing their cursed show, they can get stronger enough to defeat any entity who tries to fight them!.

You can see here more of their movements and sinister skills which they´re send you to the “other side”.

you´ve been warned now, go carefully and DON´T LISTEN THEIR SONG!
